The Urbandale community is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Miles Phipps, a beloved student at Urbandale High School, who died unexpectedly this week. At just 15 years old, Miles touched countless lives with his kindness, creativity, and joyful spirit.
Friends and family describe Miles as a gentle soul — someone who brought light wherever he went. Whether strumming his guitar, making people laugh with his silly humor, or leaving fuzzy worms around the house just to make others smile, Miles had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories of love and laughter.
His passing has left his family and friends devastated. In a heartfelt message, his loved ones shared, “All 15 years Miles was here, he was so amazing in every way. He was so loved by so many people and made an impact on everyone. He never hurt a soul and could always make someone smile.”
A candlelight vigil to celebrate Miles’ life will be held on Sunday, November 9th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Giovannetti Shelter, Walker Johnson Park, 8900 Douglas Ave, Urbandale, Iowa 50322. The gathering will be a time to share stories, honor his memory, and surround one another in love and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family plans to create a lasting memorial — a park bench and possibly a tree in Miles’ favorite spots, as a way to honor his love for the outdoors and the simple joys of life. Contributions can be made via Venmo: @Ashley-Campbell-515.
As the Urbandale community comes together to mourn this unimaginable loss, they also seek to remind one another of the importance of compassion, connection, and mental health awareness. Miles’ legacy of kindness and creativity will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know him.
Gone far too soon, but never forgotten — may you rest in eternal peace, Miles Phipps.
